Jim has worked in the media and communication industry since graduating from the University of South Carolina with a B.A. in Media Arts. He worked in communications for a national insurance company before stepping into a ministry role. Jim served on staff with another international agency for thirteen years prior to joining the Valeo team.

He and his wife, Miriam, have served in lay leadership positions in their home church since their marriage in 1983. All three of their children are married, and they are also blessed to have ten grandchildren.
